Luring Bonefish in Christmas Island

While most people think of flats fishing for Bonefish as solely the realm of the fly angler I decided to spend a bit of time on a recent trip to Christmas Island seeing how successful spin fishing could be for this cagey flats predator.

After several challenging yet fun days of flyfishing I decided to dedicate a day to throwing lures at the bones of Christmas Island. From the get-go I had decided to put in a full day regardless of how successful I was.

The flats of Christmas Island are the home to some of the world's best Bonefishing

Catching big fish on light line is at the very core of game and sportfishing, giving the fish a real chance of beating the angler and the tackle. Here Chris Baty details his journey of chasing SBTs on ever lightening line.

Bass Lodge 2013

Australian Bass - The little Aussie battler.
Australian Bass hold a special place in the hearts of freshwater anglers the country over. Scouring google maps for new locations, hiking remote streams, casting surface lures well into the night, it's all part of the charm of the species. Here Chris Baty details a recent trip to the Bass Lodge on the Macleay river for another crack at one of his favourite fish

Out of the dark - Cod on Surface Lures

Surface fishing for Cod is a great way to spend a warm balmy evening!
It's late afternoon, the temperature's up, the barometer on the rise. Kookaburras laugh in the trees above and roos jumped across the track on your walk down to the river. This is fishing Australian rivers, this is a big part of why we do it..........but it's not the best part.

Sly as a Fox - True Travel Rods

One of many NZ Kingfish take on the Fox Popper Trek 5pc.
Fox Trek rods are the brainchild of Cliff Fox. The Fox company is one of the largest wholesalers of Carp fishing gear in Europe but it's their specialist travel rods that really stand out to us here at Compleat Angler Melbourne. 15 -24kg full roller game rods, jig rods, 2.4m 24kg spin rods; these were the kind of rods that I needed...........and just like that a massive amount of the pain associated with fishing travel was gone.

Omeo Bound

There's something wonderful about a trip away camping and fishing with mates. Cold beer round a camp fire after a day treading the streams, a few trout under your belt, a good feed to keep you warm and a night under the stars to remember past trips and talk about those to come.

Fishing Tackle Trade Show 2011 - Daiwa New Releases

It's was a run and gun affair for us at the trade show this year. Two days on the Gold Coast and one of those being devoted to Compleat Angler meetings meant one day to do a three day show. That said we did manage to get around and see pretty much all of the big wholesalers as well as a few of the smaller niche companies.
